Hub for Hope

Hub for Hope is an interactive installation that teaches parents and children about child hunger in Seattle and encourages them to donate to the bin in the center of the structure. The lunchboxes around the outside have questions about child hunger that parents and children can discuss before opening to reveal the answer inside.

The outside of the lunchboxes present questions to the parent and child. The lunchboxes can be opened to reveal their insides, which state the answers and a visual graphic to accompany the text.

Q: How is my school helping my classmates get food?
A: About one third of SPS students received free & reduced lunch for the 2021-22 school year. That’s about 18,100 students.

Q: How can kids get food on the weekends?
A: The Ballard Food Bank’s Weekend Food for Kids Program provides students with 3 dinners, 2 lunches, 2 breakfasts, plus extra snacks for their days off school.

Parents and children who donate to the brown donation bin in the center of the structure can write their names on one of the fruit stickers and stick it to the outlined words on the inside of the wall, filling up the phrase “Enough for Everyone.”
